Beaumont Hope Marguerite Chenin Blanc Goes from Strength to Strength!

Recent Accolades for this Unique, Site-Specific Wine

The 2012 vintage of Beaumont’s naturally fermented and barrel matured Chenin Blanc is soon to be released.  Harvested from vines planted in 1974 and 1978, this characterful wine has truly become a Cape benchmark and defines South African cool climate Chenin.

This has been confirmed by a string of fantastic reviews and ratings over the last few vintages. The 2010 vintage was given 92 points in the Wine Enthusiast and placed in their top 100 wines for 2012. The same vintage was rated 93 points by UK journalist Tim Atkins, with these comments: “Rightly awarded Five Stars in the recent edition of South Africa’s Platter Guide, this is a sublime Cape Chenin Blanc.”

Jancis Robinson went on to place the Hope Marguerite 2010 on the exclusive list of her top 100 white wines for the year, with the comments: “Very pure varietal expression of Chenin Blanc without any obvious oak although there is structure. Nervy and with a future. Still youthful.”

The 2011 joined the 2010 and the 2008 vintages in being awarded the prestigious 5 star rating in the Platter Wine Guide for 2013 and it has recently listed in the top 10 Chenin’s in South Africa on www.topwinesa.com. Back in the UK, journalist Sarah Ahmed has complimented both our styles of Chenin in a Decanter Magazine review and in a recent entry on her blog, The Wine Detective, commenting positively on “the increasing breadth of style of the genre” and concluding “lest there be any doubt, Hope Marguerite (which was first produced in 1997), is among the Cape’s most consistent and complex top tier Chenins.”

The 2012 will be the 17th vintage of Hope Marguerite to be released. This has resulted in a style that captures the essence of the Bot River terroir through the unique character that each vintage imparts on the wine. This is a wine that reflects the passion Beaumont has for the grape and captures the essence of cool climate Chenin Blanc – a style that continues to win converts.
